How do I build a drawing register?
Fill in the project, then drop the drawing set. Each sheet becomes a line with its number, title, revision and size where the PDF records them.
Check every line, add a scale, discipline, status, issue date or note, or fill one in for every line at once. Untick the scale or discipline column to leave it out.
Select Make Excel register, Make PDF or CSV, and download the files before leaving the page.
How does the register fill itself from the drawings?
A drawing register lists every drawing in a project with its number, title, revision and status. Drop the drawing set and the register fills itself from the PDFs; check it, add the discipline, status and issue dates, and download it as Excel, PDF or CSV.
Each dropped PDF is read in this tab. A sheet's number comes from the sheet labels the PDF records, or from the file name; its title from a bookmark, the document's title or the file name; its revision from the file name or title, written as rev C, Rev.02 or a code such as P01 at the end; and its size from the page, named as A1, ANSI D or ARCH D where the measurements are one of those and given in millimetres where they are not. Layout names a CAD program writes, such as Model, are ignored. Nothing is guessed: the scale, discipline, status and dates are yours to fill in, and every line records the file it came from. Scale and discipline each have a tick box, so a register that does not use them leaves the column out of the form and out of all three files. The Excel workbook keeps drawing numbers as text, so 0012 stays 0012. Once the register is issued, the drawings can go to Xenmark for reviewers to comment on.

Limitations
What this tool does not do, stated up front.
Values read from the drawings are only as good as the PDFs. A sheet with no label is listed by its file name, and a revision is found only if the file name or title states it, so check the list.
The PDF uses a standard font that cannot show every script; characters outside Western European alphabets are written as ? in the PDF and kept in Excel and the CSV.
The register is not saved: it exists in this tab until you download it, and an existing register cannot yet be opened to carry on with.
Questions
Where do the drawing numbers come from?
From the sheet labels a PDF records, which most CAD and PDF tools write when they export a set, or from the file name when there are none. A layout name such as Model is ignored, and anything the file does not say is left empty for you.
Will Excel keep my drawing numbers as typed?
Yes, in the Excel file: numbers and revisions are written as text, so 0012 stays 0012. A CSV opened in Excel can lose a leading zero, which is why the Excel register is offered too.
What is a drawing register?
