Correction method

Measure the same known feature after a test print made at Actual size (100%), then enter its desired on-paper length. The calculated percentage is desired ÷ measured × 100.

For a test print, use Actual size (100%) with Fit to page disabled. For the final print, enter the calculated custom percentage and keep Fit to page disabled. Printer margins and drivers can still change physical output.

How do I correct a print that is not to scale?

  1. Choose Measure a known feature or Convert one drawing scale to another.

  2. For a test print made at 100%, enter the desired on-paper length and the measured length of the same feature. For scale conversion, enter current and target ratios.

  3. Select Calculate print percentage, use that custom percentage with Fit to page disabled, and verify the resulting print.

How is the print percentage calculated?

This print scale calculator gives the custom print percentage that corrects a test print, or the percentage that turns one drawing scale into another.

Test-print correction is desired on-paper length divided by measured on-paper length, multiplied by 100. A feature intended to measure 100 mm but printed at 95 mm needs about 105.263%. Converting from 1:100 to 1:50 requires 200%.

Limitations

What this tool does not do, stated up front.

  • The known-feature method expects a test print made at 100%; enter the desired on-paper length rather than a full-size real-world dimension.

  • A uniform percentage cannot repair skew, perspective or uneven stretching in a scan.

  • Printer limits, margins and driver settings can alter output; verify a known dimension after printing.

Questions

How do I interpret the print percentage?

100% means unchanged size, 50% means half size and 200% means double size. Values below 100% reduce the drawing; values above 100% enlarge it.

What percentage do I print 1:100 at to get 1:50?

200%. Write each scale as a fraction (1:100 is 1/100, 2:1 is 2) and divide the scale you want by the one you have: (1/50) ÷ (1/100) = 2, so print at 200%. The same rule gives 50% for 1:50 to 1:100, and 200% for 1:1 to 2:1.

Why is my drawing not printing to scale?

Usually because Fit to page or a similar option shrank it. Print at Actual size (100%), measure a known feature, and enter both lengths here to get the correcting percentage.
