How do I convert a TXT file to PDF?
Select one plain-text file (.txt, .log, .csv or .md) of up to 16 MiB. Its encoding is read from a byte order mark (a marker some editors put at the start) where there is one, and otherwise as UTF-8.
Choose the sheet, margin, font, size, line spacing, tab width and whether long lines wrap.
Select Create PDF and save the result before leaving the page.
How is the text laid out on the PDF page?
Convert a TXT file to PDF with a chosen page size, margin, font and wrapping. The text is laid out exactly as written, no markup is interpreted, and the words stay selectable and searchable in the PDF.
Windows, Unix and classic Mac line endings are all recognised, so a file from any of those systems reads correctly, and tabs advance to the next tab stop rather than becoming a single space. A page-break (form-feed) character, such as PDF to Text puts between pages, starts a new page. Long lines wrap at the last space that fits; a single word wider than the text area is split rather than allowed to run off the page, and the result counts both. Courier wraps exactly because every Courier character is the same width; for the other fonts the width is estimated from an average, so their wrap is approximate and the result says so.

Exact wrapping in Courier
Courier advances every character by the same amount, so wrapped lines stay inside the margin. Other fonts have letters of different widths, so their wrapping is an estimate and the result says so.
Encoding read, never guessed
A marker some files begin with shows whether the text is UTF-8 or UTF-16. Without one the file must be valid UTF-8, and anything else is refused rather than shown as garbled characters.
Selectable, searchable text
The words are written into the PDF as real text in a standard font, not as a picture, so they can be searched, selected and copied.
Nothing to install
It runs in the browser you already have. There is no plug-in, no desktop application and no sign-up to get through first.
Limitations
What this tool does not do, stated up front.
The text is set in a standard PDF font that covers Western European letters only. Other letters and scripts, such as Polish ł, Greek or Cyrillic, emoji, and control characters other than tabs, line breaks and page breaks are refused rather than substituted; the message names them (the first five, and how many more).
A file that is not valid UTF-8 and carries no byte order mark is refused, because its encoding cannot be established and guessing produces plausible-looking wrong characters.
No markup is interpreted: Markdown, HTML and similar are printed as the characters written, not formatted.
Questions
Why was my file refused?
Either the file is not valid UTF-8 and has no marker at the start showing another encoding, so its encoding cannot be established, or it contains characters a standard font cannot write. In both cases the message says which.
Will Markdown be formatted?
No. The text is laid out exactly as written. Markup characters appear as themselves.
How large a text file can be converted to PDF?
Up to 16 MiB, about 8.4 million characters and 5,000 PDF pages. A larger file is refused with a message rather than cut short.
