How do I make a snag or punch list?
Open a list you already keep — a CSV or an Excel workbook — and check how its columns line up with the fields before it is imported, or start typing entries from nothing.
Add an entry for each new snag, up to 500 entries, remove one that is resolved, or use Sort by — for example by due date or location. Sorting is alphabetical, so priorities sort Critical, High, Low, Medium. Each entry’s snag ID stays with it however the list is sorted.
Select Prepare safe CSV, correct any listed field errors, then download xenmark-snag-punch-list.csv before resetting or leaving.
How does the snag list keep item numbers intact in Excel?
Snag list is the UK term and punch list the US term for the same thing: the defects left to fix before handover. Open a list you already have, or create one in this browser tab, and download it as a CSV. Site details are not uploaded, autosaved or persisted.
Item numbers remain text, dates are checked without timezone shifting, and multiline descriptions or close notes are quoted. A value starting with =, +, - or @ — for example an item number written as a single dash — is exported with a leading apostrophe, which is the tool’s own doing, so it is never read as a formula. Sorting is alphabetical, also done by the tool itself, so item 10 sorts before item 9. Once the CSV is opened, the spreadsheet can still drop a leading zero from an item number.

Each snag needs only an item number, a location and a description. Discipline, responsible party, due date and a close note can be added as the work moves on.
Nothing leaves your machine
Nothing is uploaded. Files are read in this tab and processed in memory, with no account and no server for them to go to.
Graded on a four-step priority scale
Priority is chosen from Low, Medium, High or Critical, so every item on the list is graded against the same scale rather than in free text.
A status for work ready to inspect
Status runs Open, In progress, Ready for inspection and Closed, which keeps items waiting for a walk-round apart from those still being fixed.
Long descriptions and close notes kept whole
Descriptions and close notes take up to 2,000 characters, line breaks included, and each is written to one quoted cell so the row never splits.
Nothing to install
It runs in the browser you already have. There is no plug-in, no desktop application and no sign-up to get through first.
Limitations
What this tool does not do, stated up front.
The nine columns, four priorities and four statuses are fixed. You cannot add your own.
This version does not attach photographs, drawings or documents, assign users, send notifications, create XLSX files or sync updates.
A row marked Closed is user-entered status only; the tool does not inspect the work, certify completion or replace an agreed inspection process.
Questions
Can I add photographs?
No. The list is text only. Note a photo’s file name in the description if you need to refer to it.
Does Closed mean the work has been verified?
No. Status is user-entered register text. The tool does not inspect work or certify that an item is complete.
Is a snag list the same as a punch list?
Yes. Snag list is the usual UK term and punch list the usual US term.
